Research Decanted #1 – Wine History & Chemistry

OxHKScholars presented the first edition of “Research Decanted”, where members were invited to share their own work or interest, in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere!

To kick start the series, two speakers shared some of their knowledge about wines.
• Dominic Li (BA in History) – Table-talk History by the Glass
• Alex Tsui (DPhil in Biochemistry) – The Chemicals in Wine and How to Taste Them

PhD Information Session

Oxford Hong Kong Scholars are here to help those who are applying for postgraduate programmes!

The event took place in the Maddicott Room, Cohen Quad (Exeter College off-site), Walton Street, at 17:00–19:00 on 18/10/2018 (Thursday).

In this PhD Information Session, we had various Hong Kong scholars sharing their experience applying to PhD programs as well as securing various scholarships and funding.

Magdalen Formal cum Cambridge Exchange

The HK Scholars Association wishes everyone a good progress in the last term of the 17–18 year.

We are organising our last formal hall of the year next Friday (May 25) at Magdalen College. We are combining this with our annual exchange with Cambridge, so our Cambridge friends will also come over to join us for some other social activities!

Hilary Term: Annual Academic Symposium

Our annual Oxford symposium for the 2017-18 academic year took place on January 27th, 2018, 2:30-7 PM. A diverse array of Hong Kong scholars in Oxford attended to share ideas, methods, and innovations.

12 student speakers (8 from Oxford and 4 from Cambridge!) presented, hailing from a variety of fields including Education, Engineering, Linguistics, Biosciences, Architecture, Computer Science, China Studies & Mathematics!

MT Week 6:  Winter Wonderland & Dinner in London (hosted together with Cambridge HK Postgraduate Scholars Association)

The festive season is fast approaching. Would you like to meet some friends from The Other Place? The plan is to meet the Cambridge peeps on the Saturday at Hyde Park, followed by dinner.

Oxford Hong Kong Scholars Research Symposium

Annual Research Symposium where members of the OUHKSA present their research topics from a variety of disciplines, including engineering science, chemistry, statistics, population health, oriental studies, history, and English literature.

The Symposium was intended to enable ideas and perspectives to move across different specialties, and to encourage inter-disciplinary discussion.

Joint events with the University of Cambridge

Collaboration with the Cambridge University Hong Kong Scholars Association (CUHKSA) to organise annual visits to Cambridge, with a joint Chinese New Year Dinner in London for academic exchange and interaction of scholars.

Oxford Formals and Hong Kong Events

Throughout the entire year, the OUHKSA organises formals, dinners and drinks in Oxford and in Hong Kong to connect current members, alumni, and future members, facilitating academic and career exchange.

Talks on latest social, economical, political, and scientific developments in the world

To keep our members interested in the latest social, scientific, economic, and political developments in Hong Kong and the world, we provide them with opportunities to engage in thought-provoking discussions with prominent speakers in those disciplines.
